For my generic response to Tomasz's original email I refer you to the
Facebook post I wrote [1], but I wanted to address one particular
point that NikK raised:

Nobody said that Russian will be a universal solution. It was one
proposal to tackle the larger problem of communicating between dozens
of unrelated languages. This problem is real, and even if the size of
it is unclear right now, it will undoubtedly grow if the conference
becomes less chapter centric. If that proposal is not acceptable for
the Ukrainian community, perhaps it could consider alternative
solutions to it. Having UN-style full-mesh translation between all the
languages would be super cool, but probably not realistic. :)
